The Journal of Climate Change Science (hereinafter referred to as the Journal), whose English name is Journal of Climate Change Science, is a unit under the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, Environment and Marine Science (formerly the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change Science).

On October 5, 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment approved the operational plan for the Journal of Climate Change Science under the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change Science, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

On December 5, 2016, the Central Propaganda Department issued Official Letter No. 1661-CV/BTGTW regarding the granting of an operating license for the Journal of Climate Change Science.

On December 30, 2016, the Minister of Information and Communications granted the Printing Press Operating License No. 604/GP-BTTTT to the Journal of Climate Change Science.

On March 15, 2017, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment signed Decision No. 386/QD-BTNMT establishing the Journal of Climate Change Science.

On March 24, 2017, the National Information Center for Science and Technology agreed to grant the Journal of Climate Change Science the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) 2525-2496.

The Journal of Climate Change Science has the function of disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations on meteorology, hydrology, environment, and climate change; publishing scientific and technological research results on meteorology, hydrology, environment, and climate change; and providing information on training and scientific research activities of the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change Science and related units.

The Journal of Climate Change Science, first published in March 2017, has since had a long and consistent publication history. From its humble beginnings, the journal has garnered significant attention from scientists, ranking among the few journals in the field of climate change, with articles consistently high in both quantity and quality.

Throughout its development, from its inception to the present day, the journal has consistently upheld its mission of disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations on meteorology, hydrology, environment, and climate change; and publishing the latest scientific and technological research results on forecasting and the impacts of extreme weather events and climate change on the natural environment and socio-economic development activities.

The journal is published four times a year, including several issues edited in English with high-quality, in-depth articles on Climate Change, Meteorology, Hydrology, and Environment. Therefore, by 2019, the journal was recognized by the Council of Professors in the field of Irrigation as a journal with a 0-0.5 point rating. Since 2022, the journal has been approved by the State Council for Professor Titles to be included in the list of scientific journals with a maximum of 0.75 points per article and has been assigned an International DOI (Domain Identification Number). In 2025, the journal will be scored by two councils: the Council of Professors in the field of Irrigation, which will award points to each article from 0 to 0.75 points; and the Council of Professors in the field of Earth Sciences and Mining, which will award points to each article from 0 to 0.25 points.

All articles in the Journal of Climate Change Science are newly registered on the national citation system, Vietnam Journals Online (VJOL).
